2010 Year in Review -- borrowed from everybody
1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before? I tried to sleep on concrete and realized I was terrible at it. I also told an elderly woman to fuck off, but she deserved it. 2. Did you keep your New Year’s Resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don’t think I made any. I usually make resolutions all year long, though. 3. Did anyone close to you give birth? I know...

Mail and other woes
I submitted an official USPS change-of-address form the first week of December. I didn’t do it immediately when I moved because I had paid for my rented mailbox through December 31, anyway. But I did do it — weeks ago. I also changed my address directly with the Social Security Administration. They sent me a confirmation letter, which I still have and even mentioned on this blog. ...

Weird (minor) illness
I’ve never been diagnosed with migraines, but I’ve been getting these headaches that hurt my eyes and make it difficult to read. I also have the old, familiar, swelling in my neck that I experience every time I go a few weeks without my medications. It’s difficult to swallow, but I don’t have a visible lump or anything. I also inexplicably started throwing up the other...

Even more annoying than debt collectors
I have received four (count ‘em — four) phone calls from a job placement agency in the past 24 hours. The same agency. And here’s the best part — they’re trying to hook me up with my last job. You know, the one that was completely misrepresented to me and that I left in a crying panic? Yeah, that one!  When I was first offered the job, the recruiter said to me...

Shrink: I'll make some phone calls and see how quickly we can get this situation straightened out. I'm concerned about you being without your medication. I'm also concerned that offices will be closed because of New Year's, so I'd like to get this fixed before then.
Me: I highly doubt that we'll find any kind of solution before New Year's. Nothing's that efficient.
Shrink: It's possible! I will call our contact at DSHS and will call, too. I've left her a message already and she knows this is an emergency, so it could be resolved in a couple of days, I would think. And maybe some specialized pharmacy can help you, we just need to find it.
Me: Wow, you are far more optimistic than I am.
Shrink: Well, I have to be.

Wow, my debt collectors must read my blog and know that I got a new phone. I have received no fewer than five calls in just 20 minutes! The creepiest of which left me a message with no words, only music. It was this. I guess they want me to “wake up” and pay my bills.

I really should just go to prison so I can stop...
So, I got a random call from my shrink today, and she told me that I missed an appointment that I had no idea that I had. The last time I saw her was the day it snowed and most of the city was shut down. The receptionist didn’t show up to work that day, and there was no one to make an appointment for me. I guess that somebody made an appointment for me and left me a voice mail about it...

Apparently, no one cares about my demographic.
So, my phone is a Samsung Gravity 3, which wasn’t my first choice. I don’t like slider phones because they always come unlocked by themselves and I end up pocket-dialing everyone I have ever talked to in my life. Even so, the Gravity 3 seemed acceptable, and I was mostly happy with it except for one (for me, kind of big) thing. Someone in their usability department needs a smack upside...

I finally got a phone! Woo! It’s the most expensive phone I have ever bought, which may not be saying much to a lot of you. $49.99 but it has a $20 rebate. I had to buy a new SIM card, though and pay off some of my past due balance, so it wasn’t pretty. This phone better last through the apocalypse. I actually had insurance on my last phone, but that turned out to be useless. The new...

That was a powerful story about the diner, the saintly Starbucks lady, the other hungry, lonely patrons, and the horribly acting waitress.

I have recommended your site by word of mouth. I forget about recommend Tuesdays. Hope you are snug, safe, warm, and calm tonight.

I realized today that my childhood dream of becoming a grown-up Harriet the Spy has come true. Yes, right down to the compulsive eavesdropping, the hoodie, the glasses, the snarkiness, and the fact that I never leave home without a notebook. The main differences between me and Harriet are that I am 21 years older than she is and I hate tomato sandwiches. Oh, Harriet, I love you. Forever and...

Christmas
I don’t “do” Christmas, at least not in any traditional sense. It’s usually depressing for me because I am always broke or sick and I don’t have any family. I hate consumerism, but I admit that I do enjoy buying gifts for people. I enjoy getting gifts, too, provided that I can reciprocate (which I usually can’t do). When my mom was alive, we would go to the...

Phones
I haven’t had a phone in a while, and I tried to buy one but I couldn’t make myself do it! Eek! I don’t want to pay $18 for a phone that’s just as crappy as the one I lost. For one thing, I just know that my missing phone will show up as soon as I buy a new one. More importantly, I HATED the phone I lost, and I used it for almost three years. If I buy a crappy phone and...

Damn you, Tumblr, for eating my post! Well, it went something like this: Sometimes I feel like a bad grown-up (or at least a bad woman) because I don’t care about things like thread count. But then I realize that I have no idea what thread count actually is. At my last job, I got paid to write about the luxuries of high thread-count sheets, but I never actually tried to figure out what...

Timing is everything.
Jeepers, I can’t even show up to pizza on time, but in my defense, I showed up late on purpose. I have been to two other food-related events in my apartment complex, and both times the food was late and I was stuck hanging out with my neighbors. I’m a bit antisocial, but even if I weren’t I would have trouble hanging out with them. If you knew my neighbors, you’d see what I...

I have some money but my reign of idiocy continues
I missed my apartment case manager appointment and had to reschedule. Yes, the appointment that I was dreading. I woke up over two hours early, then somehow thought that closing my eyes again was a good idea. The next thing I knew, I was 52 minutes late. I’m sure there’s some rule that prevents him from doing this, and he probably just doesn’t have time, but my apartment is about...

I re-applied for Medicaid, which I shouldn’t have had to do. It was more difficult than I would have thought. They had better not give me any of their dickery, because hell hath no fury like me after talking to a DSHS employee. Seriously, it will be like Carrie White had a baby with The Hulk.

Dread
You know that awful, foggy, groggy feeling you get after waking up before you’re ready to be awake? Usually this feeling goes away after a cup (or two or three) of coffee, or even just moving around. But coffee and activity don’t really seem to do anything. I feel like this every second of every day now. Hopefully this will go away soon, but I don’t know how. I’m going to...

Operation: Food Bank was a success. Even though I’d never been there before, it was easy to get in and they didn’t ask me a bunch of questions about my income. It was crowded (I have never seen a food bank that wasn’t) and the whole process took about two hours. It was closer than I thought and there’s actually no point to taking the bus. I immediately regretted not...

Confession
I have only 68 cents in food stamps left. I don’t have much food left at home. And for whatever reason, I am too damn embarrassed to set foot back in the shelter again. I really don’t want to deal with people saying “Oh, what are you doing back here? Did the apartment not work out?” and I don’t want gossipy bitches talking about me. I don’t want to deal with...

Budget cuts that will ruin your life. Yeehaw. →
I probably shouldn’t read things like this because it just upsets me. This affects pretty much everyone I met at the homeless shelters, and if affects all of my neighbors (even the screamy lady). And it sure as hell affects me. “Disability Lifeline” is the program I was on until last month. They just cut everyone’s payments down by about $70 per month. That’s bad...
