TV

Oh, and I got a TV. I have a friend who makes a lot of money. He had this ridiculously huge TV sitting in his closet for three years because he decided to buy an even bigger and more ridiculous TV instead. He was going to give the smaller TV to Goodwill, but he gave it to me. He called it “old” but it’s only about four years old. This TV is barely past its toddler stage. My last TV was old enough to buy me a drink, and it was a hotel TV so I couldn’t even hook up a DVD player or VCR to it, which is mostly what I would want to do with it. It didn’t even have a “video” mode. The volume button had fallen off and there was no remote (nor would a universal remote work with it because it had never been sold commercially), and every time I turned it on, it would automatically set the volume to DEAFENING ROAR. It also had a habit of turning itself on and off out of nowhere. That television had free will.

I’m self-conscious about the TV. It is a behemoth. A BEHEMOTH. It’s some crazy flat-screen thing I’ve only seen in stores or pictures. I saw it in his apartment, but it was next to the TV twice its size, and I didn’t realize how large it was until I got it home. I feel like I live in a movie theater and it is weird. I love TV and am happy to have one, but this television is much flashier than anything I have ever owned. I’m not used to televisions manufactured within the past decade! Or nice things! I think that iPods are freaky alien devices from the future, and this is way fancier than any iPod. It is a bit amusing to see this crazy TV in the same room as my dorm bed, charity dresser, and the wobbly table I got for free. Eesh.
